“I had a college degree, a decade of experience, and the only job I could get was making $8 an hour at the local convenience store in my neighborhood. I have no business being in politics. I was not groomed for this. But thanks to public financing, I have a voice. And thanks to public financing, a gal who takes cash for the convenience store for selling sandwiches can actually talk about the stories that she’s learned from behind the counter.” - Diane Russell
Diane is a rising star and an outspoken champion of clean elections and campaign finance reform. She was named “Most Valuable State Representative” by the Nation Magazine in 2011 and won all her previous campaigns utilizing Maine’s Clean Elections Program, fueled by small dollar donations. Maine has one of the best clean election programs in the country, but it is routinely under attack. Diane will help defend and expand that program.
As a state representative, Diane went above and beyond the call to best represent the interests of constituents living in her district in Portland. By electing her to the state Senate, Maine will have another champion fighting on behalf of the people, not corporate interests.
