Strategies for Democracy: From Revolutionary Elections to a Constitutional Amendment

Move to Amend + MAYDAY.US

With the advent of Citizens United v. FEC, many of us realized that the United States is not a democracy. The ideas of money in elections and corporate personhood, while not new, were illuminated in such a way that none could ignore. Now communities all over the country are rising up to push back, working to create a truly democratic society and a government accountable to the people, not corporations or billionaires. We’ll explore a variety of tactics being used to create power with a panel of experts and elected officials. We will then break out into groups to envision and CREATE a future where voters, not corporations or dollars, decide our public policy. Participants will leave understanding the new political and legal incentives at play, and armed with the tools to fundamentally shift power at every level of government back to the people.
